SIMPLE PRESENT (Presente de Indicativo):

SIMPLE PAST (Pasado Simple). It uses the same form of the verb with all the subjects (Usa la misma forma para todas las personas):

When the verb “to do” functions as an ordinary verb meaning “hacer” is important to distinguis it from the verb “to make”, which also means “hacer” but with the sense of “fabricar” (Cuando el verbo “to do” funciona como verbo ordinario con el signficado de “hacer”, es importante distinguirlo del verbo “to make”, que también significa “hacer” pero en el sentido de fabricar):

I do my job (Hago mi trabajo) vs. I made a cake for your birthday (Hice una tarta por tu cumpleaños)

When it acts as an auxiliary verb it is used to form the negative and interrogative forms of simple present and past of the rest of the verbs (Cuando actúa como auxiliar se utiliza para construir las formas negativas e interrogativas de los demás verbos):

I don’t want more cake (No quiero más tarta)

Do you go out tonight? (Sales esta noche?)

* As you can appreciate, it is very common to use the negative form contracted (Como se puede apreciar, es muy común usar la forma contraída de la negación).

Another use of the verb “to do” is that one that avoids the verb mentioned before. It is usual to use verb “to do” for short answers (Otro uso del verbo “to do” es el que evita la repetición del verbo que se acaba de menionar. Se usa para hacer respuestas cortas).

When a coordinating conjunction connects two independent clauses, it is often accompanied by a comma, but it can be ommited when the two connected clauses are balanced (Cuando una conjunción coordinada une dos frases independientes, es frecuente que vaya acompañada de una coma, pero se puede omitir cuando las dos frases unidas están en equilibrio):

* Marta wants to buy a flat, but she has had economic difficulties in these months -
Marta quiere comprar un piso, pero en los últimos meses ha tenido dificultades económicas

* She wants to come to the party but she has to work - Ella quiere venir a la fiesta pero tiene que trabajar

The comma is always correct when used to separate two independent clauses connected by a coordinating conjunction. A comma is also correct when “and” is used to attach the last item of a serial list, although many writers will omit that final comma (La coma siempre es correcta cuando se usa para separar dos frases independientes unidas por una conjunción coordinada en inglés. Incluso es correcto usar coma cuando “and” se usa para unir el último elemento de una serie, aunque muchos escritores la omiten):

* Emanuel spent his holidays swimming, sleeping, and eating - Emanuel pasó sus vacaciones nadando, durmiendo y comiendo (En castellano no se pone la última coma antes de la conjunción)

In most of their other roles as joiners, coordinating conjunctions can join two sentence elements without the help of a comma (Como nexos, las conjunciones coordinadas pueden unir elementos de dos frases sin ayuda de una coma).

Which is used with more specific reference than what; it refers to specific things on the question.

What color do you prefer? (¿Qué color prefieres? Es una pregunta más general)

Which color do you prefer? (¿Qué/Cuál de estos colores prefieres? Es una pregunta más específica, sobre algo más concreto, normalemente a elegir entre varias opciones o posibilidades)
The interrogative pronouns also act as Determiners. Then they are called interrogative adjectives (Los pronombres interrogativos también puede actuar como determinantes. Entonces se les conoce también como adjetivos interrogativos):

He knows where is his car (Él sabe dónde está su coche)

She doesn’t matter which bed you choose. (A ella no le importa qué cama escojas)

The interrogative pronouns introduce noun clauses in the same way the relative pronouns do, and like these, the interrogative pronouns play a subject role in the clauses they introduce (Los pronombres interrogativos introducen grupos nominales al igual que los pronombres relativos, y del mismo modo que éstos, desempeñan el papel de sujeto en las frases que introducen):

I know who is your sister (Yo sé quién es tu hermana)

The woman in red is your mother, isn’t she? / La mujer de rojo es tu madre, ¿no?
You cannot help me, can you? / No me puedes ayudar, ¿verdad?

To form a question tag we use the auxiliary or modal verb of the main sentence and its subject but with the opposite sign. This means that if the statement is positive is followed by a negative tag; and a negative statement is followed by a positive tag. If the sentence has neither modal nor auxiliary verb, we will use the auxiliary “to do”. (Para formar una question tag usamos el verbo auxiliar de la oración principal y su sujeto pero con signo contrario. Esto es que si la oración es positiva irá seguida de una question tag en negativo; y si la oración es negativa, la question tag será positiva. Si la oración principal no consta de verbo auxiliar, utilizaremos el verbo auxiliar “to do” para construir la question tag.)
He doesn’t like green beans, does he? / A él no le gustan las judías, ¿verdad?

Question tags are used to check and verify information. Sometimes they are used by default. (Las question tags se usan para comprobar y verificar la información, pero muchas veces se usan por defecto).

The gramatical structure of “to have” is the same of the rest of the verbs ( La estructura gramatical para el verbo “to have” es la misma que la del resto de verbos). The only difference is that verb “to have”, as well as “to be” and “to do”, is an auxiliary verb and doesn’t need other verb to form negative and interrogative sentences (La única diferencia es que el verbo “to have”, al igual que los verbos “to be” y “to do”, es auxiliar y no necesita otro verbo para formar las orcaiones negativa e interrogative).
